Nissin Electric and Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. have established the Nissin-Sumiden Energy System R&D Center, merging their research and development departments with the aim of strengthening their Power Transmission/Distribution and Energy Solution Business.
This group synergy between the power technology and system development technology of Nissin Electric and the environmental and energy technology and materials technology of Sumitomo Electric will further strengthen our business.

Monitoring & Diagnostic Technology Development Department

As the world shifts to a decarbonized society, renewable energy will continue to be introduced in large quantities. Monitoring of the status of power system equipment and power transmission and distribution networks has become increasingly important to ensure stable delivery of generated power to customers. The department develops sensor systems which realize such monitoring, as well as technologies and products for abnormality detection, deterioration diagnosis, and fault sign detection.

The department develops power system equipment and substation equipment, including gas insulated switchgear (GIS), and monitoring and diagnosis technologies and products, including stationary storage batteries. The department also works to meet the requirements of IEC 61850, an international standard which has been increasingly adopted for supervisory control of power system equipment, to meet the needs of substation digitalization and smart maintenance.
Scope of contribution
The department helps underpin stable supply of power, which is important social infrastructure, through early detection of partial discharge phenomena, which lead to dielectric breakdown accidents of substation equipment, deterioration diagnosis of stationary storage batteries and reused storage batteries, which will be introduced in large numbers, and status monitoring of power transmission and distribution networks, which will become unstable due to an increase in renewable energy, thereby contributing to realizing carbon neutrality.
Material Technology Department

The department develops technologies for applying, modifying, and improving various materials used for our products, based on technologies to analyze and evaluate organic and inorganic materials in general. It focuses on the development of insulation materials related to solid insulation, oil-immersed insulation, and gas insulation technologies, which are essential to develop and manufacture high-voltage power system equipment. The department also develops power shutoff technologies.

Materials which are evaluated by the Material Technology Development Dept. are used for our various products. Recently, the department has contributed to the application development of alternative materials to cope with changes in the global procurement environment and the development of insulation oils not derived from fossil fuels and insulation gas equipment whose global warming coefficient is low to meet the SDGs and realize carbon neutrality.
System Technology Department

The energy market is at a major turning point due to the accelerated trend of decarbonization and rapid progress of digital technologies. We must offer total systems by combining internal and external technologies and products without being constrained by our proprietary technologies and components. The department develops energy systems with higher added value by integrating internal and external energy-related technologies and products, using system technology.

Beam & Plasma Technology Department

The department develops surface modification and thin film deposition technologies using charged particles, such as electrons and ions in plasma. It also develops antenna technologies using high-frequency waves to generate plasma, technologies related to high-frequency wave circuits, and technologies related to vacuum application systems.
Furthermore, the department takes on challenges to develop quantum applied technology using diamonds.

The department promotes establishment of new businesses through planning, marketing, design and prototype verification, and development operations regarding company-wide themes to develop technologies and products. Main initiatives including the following:

- Execution of development for commercialization (information sharing with the Research Division and the Business Division, preparation of basic technologies)
